La Granja Espresso Stout from Nørrebro Bryghus, Denmark
It isn’t quite black, but a deep brown with golden tints. Pours smooth and gives off a powerful sweet aroma.
Must be the Canadian maple syrup in it as the foamy caramel head tastes of syrup. Once the beer settles that sweetness strangely disappears and it smells and tastes like a coffee shop – fresh ground coffee beans.
There is a dryness that finishes the beer after the the caramel and coffee flavour mix. Similar to munching on chocolate covered coffee beans. Didn’t get much of maple on the flavour, but it did add nicely to the aroma.
Very nice beer even if you’re like me and are not a coffee drinker!
