Oatmeal Stout from Samuel Smith Brewery, England
Smells of oats and chocolate, very smooth beer. This was one of the first great stouts I ever enjoyed – a beer that made me appreciate the style for it’s flavour and complexity.
The overall taste is a low roast that slowly rises in bitterness before a change to a lasting, sweet finish. It always amuses me that their marketing of this beer often mentions how this style of oatmeal beer was created for lactating mothers back in the 1800’s.
Nice amount of malt taste in this very dark beer, which pours deep brown/black with a massive off white head. This is the most flavourful stout I can recommend if you’re looking for a lower alcohol (5%) beer.
