Wicked Wheat Beer: Weihenstephaner Kristallweissbier

Weihenstephaner Kristallweissbier – a clear / crystal wheat beer from Germany

There is a sour soapiness to this which turned me off at first.

But the taste turns sweet and spicy after the initial oddness. Unfortunately the smell stays a bit sour, maybe spicy – but it’s a spice I don’t care for.

Refreshing to drink, the crystal weiss is clear with a mild orange colour, like a pale lager. No cloudiness like other wheat beer styles, which defines the kristallweizen style.

Overall skippable in my opinion, but worth trying once to see if your tastes enjoy it. I simply found it a bit bland and bitter, without any real discernable flavour profile. I’ll need to try this beer and/or style again as most people thoroughly enjoy this beer.
