Easter Island (Rap Nui) is one of those places I’d gladly return to. Full of mystery, peaceful and isolated. This Moai (the name for the rock statues everywhere on the island) was one of my favourites. It is the only kneeling Moai on the island, found on the outer side of Rano Raraku crater. The way the clouds are formed in the sky, made me think this Moai was deep in thought…the stories he would tell, if only he could talk.
Interesting Maoi, did you know that the tallest moai erected, called Paro, was almost 10 metres!
I loved Easter Island! I’m with you, I could easily be convinced to go back there. I remember the kneeling Moai, and that whole quary area was incredible.

Ya, the quarry at Rano Raraku was pretty amazing….huge too! You can spend hours walking around the crater…
Is there a story why it is kneeling? I guess if rocks could talk they would tell us amazing stories about what had happened. PS. Every time I see Maoi statues, I remember Night at the Museum’s Gum Gum 🙂

Hey Armands…there is definitely a story about why it is kneeling…but if I ever knew it, I’ve long forgotten. I have a feeling the reason was lost with the ancient culture though.
Nice shot man! I’m with you… I’m going back one day!
